Commissioners get check for graveling lot
The Morgan County Commission received a donation of $1,600 from the Chamber of Commerce for graveling the new parking lot at the county courthouse site. The total bill for graveling the lot was $1608.15.
Chamber of Commerce President Chuck Wheeler and Chamber of Commerce Director Beth Curtin both expressed their appreciation to the commissioners creating the parking lot. Parking is a major problem in town and the lot has alleviated it somewhat, they said. Curtin said they understand that the parking lot is temporary.
Curtin asked the commissioners if the Chamber of Commerce could use the new parking lot during the Apple Butter Festival for either vendors or vendor parking or both. The gravel lot they generally use across from St. Vincent de Paul Church is now being used for construction.
The church's gravel lot will at least have construction equipment in it at festival time, said Curtin. Curtin said she had met with St. Vincent de Paul officials who advised that they are running a month behind in their construction now. They may be able to work around it and move the equipment, said Wheeler.
Commission President Glen Stotler okayed the parking lot use and said he didn't think any courthouse construction would materialize prior to Apple Butter Festival.
