John L. Shackelford

1928-2007

John Lee Shackelford, 79, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at his home.

He was born in Kearneysville, April 4, 1928, son of the late Elzie D. Shackelford and Ada Jane Martin Shackelford.

He attended the Berkeley Baptist Church.

He was a Retired U.S. Army Veteran from WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War and awarded three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from Yost Building Supply, Berkeley Springs.

He attended Shepherd College for two years. He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion, Post #60, Berkeley Springs and AARP.

He is survived by his

wife Alice Pauline Yost Shackelford, Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Jacqueline L. Smith, Great Cacapon; three sons, John A. Shackelford, Evans, Ga., David W. Shackelford, Berkeley Springs and Tony L. Shackelford, Hagerstown, Md.; one sister Marie Collis, Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva Parker, Shirley Penwell, Dorothy Kranenburg, Alice Pierce; two brothers, Frank Shackelford and James Shackelford; and one great-grandchild.

Services were Saturday, June 2, at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Stephon Reed officiating. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Tri-State Honor Guard gave a military tribute at the funeral home Saturday.
