Hey, girlfriend weekend
Art sales on the street, belly dancing and a gallery show that includes chocolate motorcycles are a few of the weekend events on June 1.2.and 3 that flavor this come-with-your-gal-pals getaway to Berkeley Springs, girlie capital of West Virginia.
Berkeley Springs is always attractive to discerning women, both residents and visitors. On this first weekend in June, the place goes all out to celebrate the sisters, cousins, college roommates and carpooling moms who need time away with just the girls.
The fun begins on First Friday with antique cars in the park and drumming with belly dancers on the street in front of Portals new age shop. Shops, businesses, and the Roman Baths all stay open late on Friday. Tari's Cafe has a sneak preview of their Wild Women Art Sale highlighted by an exhibit of Berkeley Springs artist Kathy Robinson's hand hooked rugs.
Saturday-only activities include the Wild Women Art Sale on the street in front of Tari's Cafe and rare astrological mini-readings are offered next door at the Star Theatre from noon to 4pm.
Tari's Cafe and Gallery is the heart of Hey, Girlfriend activities on Sunday when she gathers musical females for Torch and Twang, an all-girl jam session from 2 to 5 p.m. partnered with the exclusive Tiara Time when girlfriends position their tiaras, or grab one from the common box. Long cigarette holders and feather boas are also encouraged.
For the outdoor girlfriends, meet at Cacapon State Park on Saturday for a hike along the ridgetop of Cacapon Mountain.
In between all the special events are the standard attractions of this historic spa town. Girlfriends can assemble their own spa tour, sampling among 53 different body treatments at local spas ranging from European facials and Lomi Lomi massage to acupuncture and mud wraps.
