Donald Jones



Donald Jones, 72, died unexpectedly at his home near Great Cacapon on April 18, 2007.

A recognized leader in chemistry education, he was a member of the Western Maryland College chemistry department for 36 years until his retirement in 1999.

Since his retirement, he remained active in the American Chemical Society and, in 2006, won the Division of Chemical Education Outstanding Service Award. He was active in his community and served as past president of the River Ridge neighborhood association.

He is survived by the wife, Helen Jones, Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Andrea Jones Hall, Kinsale, Va. and Denise Jones, Rosemount Minn.; one son, Kirk Jones, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; two stepchildren, Caryn Meade, Raleigh, N.C.; and Daniel Herlocker, Brattleboro, Vt; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Splinter of Illinois; and Anna Mae Priester, South Bend, Ind.

He was predeceased by one brother, Travis C. Jones, of South Bend.

A memorial service was held at Baker Memorial Chapel (McDaniel College, Westminster, Md.) on Tuesday, April 24,
