Gilbert E. Unger

1914-2007

Gilbert E. Unger, 92, of Newark, Del., died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Heartland Hospice House after a brief illness.

He was born June 21, 1914 in Berkley Springs, the son of the late Earl and Sarah Myers Unger.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 74 for 50 years and of Ebenezer United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He also belonged to Full Gospel Businessmen's International.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys E. Unger of Newark; one son Douglas W. Unger, Americus, Ga.; one daughter Shirley Dempsey, Newark; five grandchildren, Christopher Dempsey, Blacksburg, Va., Leslie Scrivner, Marietta, Ga., Erin Unger, Winterville, Ga., James Seth Unger, Americus, Ga. and Matthew Unger, Milford, Del.; two great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Unger.

A funeral service was held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Newark on Saturday, April 21. Burial was in the church cemetery.
