Discount food can be

Tucked away in its own little corner of U.S. 522, Divine's Discount Food Store might not be what you expect.

Owners David and Wanda Divine opened their doors in August 2006 to an eager and welcome community.

"We're here for them," said the Divines.

Wanda Divine began at Baker's Bent & Dent in McConnellsburg, working there for a year and a half. When it closed down, she went to work at Sav-A-Lot in Hancock.

While working in Hancock, she met her husband, David Divine and decided they wanted to open their own bent and dent store.

They had originally wanted to open a store in Hancock, but laws prohibited them from doing so.

They ventured across the river and found a small storefront next to Cannery Row on U.S. 522.

"Every box is like Christmas"

The Divines said they like to keep variety on their shelves. The items they have in stock are always changing, said David Divine.

They also said they get their items from many different sources, such as people going out of business and salvage warehouses.

"If we can get a good deal on something, we get it," said David Divine.

"Sometimes, we don't know what the boxes have in them. It's like Christmas every time you open a box," he continued.

They also have many brand named items.

Wanda Divine also sells Longaberger Baskets, Boyd's Bears, Avon and Home Interior items from inside the store.

Divine's Discount Food Store is located at 101 Business Park Circle in Berkeley Springs. They are closed Sunday and Monday. From Tuesday through Friday, they are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 1. Afterwards, they will be open to 5 p.m. On Saturday, they are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They can be reached at 304-258-2519.
