County schools announce pre-kindergarten registration
Morgan County Schools has scheduled Pre-Kindergarten registration dates for the 2007-2008 school year. All children who are age four by August 31 are eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten program, regardless of income. Classes are free of charge to all students. Certified teachers provide developmentally appropriate learning activities through the Creative Curriculum. This nationally recognized research-based curriculum develops critical thinking skills, fosters socioemotional development, facilitates language, science and math development, and teaches children to organize.
Morgan County Schools anticipates increased enrollment for the upcoming school year because of the great interest shown by parents during the current school year. The school system is working with a new community partner to provide an additional classroom contingent upon increased enrollments. Doodlebugs Learning Station is a licensed child care facility located on Oakland Road near the entrance to Cacapon State Park. Pre-Kindergarten classrooms are tentatively planned for the following locations:
Berkeley Springs - RESA VIII Center on Myers Street near Widmyer Elementary.
Great Cacapon - RESA VIII site at the former Great Cacapon Elementary School (This center provides services to children from Paw Paw and Great Cacapon).
Southern Morgan County - Doodlesbugs Learning Station.
Berkeley Springs - Widmyer Elementary.
Although West Virginia does not require the transporting of children to the pre-K program, RESA VIII often provides transportation to its sites.
Registration locations, dates and times include the following:
Paw Paw Elementary School Conference Room, Tuesday, March 6, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Former Great Cacapon Elementary School, Tuesday, March 6, 1:30 - 3 p.m.
Morgan County Schools Board of Education Office, 247 Harrison Avenue Berkeley Springs, Wednesday, March 7, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Thursday, March 8, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Registration for Pre-Kindergarten is not complete until children have a physical and dental exam, provide immunization records, an official certificate of live birth from the state office of vital statistics, and a social security number. Specific forms for the dental and physical exams will be given to parents at the time of registration.
Once enrolled, children are screened for hearing, speech, vision, cognitive development, height, weight, and vision. Based on the results of the screenings children may be referred for additional services from Morgan County schools as needed.
