Warm Springs grapplers win 16-team Invitational
The Warm Springs wrestling team traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia on Saturday, January 20, and captured first place in the 16-team Thomas Harrison Middle School Invitational.
Warm Springs scored 206 points, 35 points more than second place Frederick County Middle School. Finishing third with 166 points was Faquier County Middle, followed by Thomas Harrison Middle and Robert Ayler Middle. Other teams participating were Louisa County, Wilbur Pence, Battlefield, Frank J. Hillard, Culpepper County, Elkton, Shellbourne, Charlotesville, Kate Collins, William Monroe and Floyd T. Binns.
"The kids really wrestled well," said Warm Springs coach Shawn Diehl. "This was a nice win for our program and I couldn't be happier."
The Wolves crowned six champions including Ryan Diehl (75), Loguen McKee (80), Damen Capper (112), Cody Gaither (130), Tory Bennett (135) and Hobert Delph (215).
Finishing second was Dylan Mason at 160, while Isaac Reed (85) and Cohen Hovermale (90) placed third. Ricky Michael placed fourth at 145 to round out the Warm Springs place-winners.
Nick Kidwell (140) finished the day 2-2, while CJ Gosey (189) and Matt Parkinson (171) each finished the tournament with a win and two losses. Kyle Haffarath (103) rounded out the Warm Springs lineup.
Warm Springs, currently ranked second in the state among middle schools, will finish the season tonight, January 24, at Charles Town.
