Glen D. Rice



1931-2007

Glen D. Rice, 76, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born March 18, 1931, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Elsie and Ray Rice. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Tyler and two brothers, Renan Rice and Ray Rice, Jr. and one sister, Wanita Stephenson.

After graduating from Berkeley Springs High School in 1949, he joined the U.S. Army serving in Seoul, Korea. He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown before moving to Fairfax, Va., where he worked for Atlantic Research, AMF Corp and with COMSAT, a division of Lockheed Martin until retiring in April 1996 and moving to Ridgeley. In December 2001, he moved to Berkeley Springs. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Cumberland, Md., where he served as an elder, church treasurer and taught an adult Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife Julia Crane Rice; one son, David Rice, Ridgeley; five grandsons, Shane Rice, Tyrel Rice, both of Fairfax, John Rice, Arlington, Va., Ian Tyler, Marlboro, Mass., Joshua Rexrode, Grafton, Mass.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Barton, Athol, Mass. and Jaimie Tyler, Orange, Mass.; 11 great grandchildren; four sisters, Sandra Norman, Lynchburg, Va., Barbara Morgan, Vienna, Va., Relda White and Corinne DeLawder, both of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Keith Rice, Savannah, Ga. and Frank Rice, Manassas, Va.

Funeral services were conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland on Wednesday, December 19 with Pastor John R. Herbst officiating. Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard presented the flag.

Inurnment will be in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va. at a later date.
