Noise law won
During recent discussions, the Morgan County Commissioners opted to leave the county's Excessive Noise Ordinance as it is.
County officials had considered amending the rules to allow daytime enforcement of the nuisance rules after a Sir Johns Run resident complained that his Mother's Day weekend was ruined by mid-day concerts at the Triple B Arena.
During the incident, police and dispatchers told the resident that the county's noise ordinance could not be enforced before 11 p.m.
County officials decided to leave the 11 p.m. enforcement time in place, saying the Mother's Day concert problem was a one-time occurrence.
False alarm law
A False Alarm Ordinance proposed by Sheriff Vince Shambaugh is still under legal review by Prosecutor Debra McLaughlin.
Shambaugh gave county officials a copy of Tucker County's law as a sample to consider. He said false alarms on automatic burglar alarms waste valuable police time and resources.
The new law would require homeowners to register their house alarms with the police, pay a registration fee and pay penalties if their alarm system caused the police to be called out to the residence for no reason.
Before they could pass such a law, the county commissioners would have to hold a public hearing to gather local comments about an ordinance.
