Paw Paw Library features “Book to Movie Night”
The Paw Paw Public Library holds a Book to Movie night for children and their families every third Thursday evening of the month.
Children’s librarian Jennifer Delawder reads a section of a well-known kids’ book and children and families watch a movie afterwards. Families are encouraged to read the book with their kids before they come.
The event has become a family night at the library, with popcorn and discussion comparing the book and movie, Delawder said.
This month’s Book to Movie Night is set for February 21 at 6 p.m. and features the book and movie “How to Train Your Dragon,” said librarian Nellie Leach. Children 11 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult for the event.
The program began in April of last year and is doing very well, Leach said. At least 10 children attend on average and 23 kids enjoyed their September event. They take a break from the Book to Movie Night during the summer reading program.
VHS, audio book sale
The library is also having a VHS video, audio book cassette and book sale through the end of February. Proceeds of the sale will help the library, Leach said.
Sale of these items will free up space to make a West Virginia genealogical research room with a computer, Leach said. They hope to have it in place this summer.
WV Reads 150
Paw Paw library patrons can participate in West Virginia Reads 150. If they read 150 books from January through December of this year, they will receive a certificate, she said. The program is for children and adults and can be done as an individual or with a group.
At the library, patrons can browse the shelves or the Internet or do job searches or use resume-builders or other resources. They also have free Wi-Fi.
Other programs
The library has story time and crafts on Friday mornings from 10 to 10:30 a.m., weather permitting, Leach said.
The summer reading program is scheduled for four weeks in July on Wednesdays on July 10, 17, 24 and 31.
This spring they plan to have a workshop on how to use a Kindle, Nook or other e-reader, she said. Check with the library for more details.
The Paw Paw Public Library is open on Mondays from 12 noon to 5 p.m., on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and also from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The library is closed on Sundays.
