Robert J. Roche

Robert Joseph Roche, 81, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at War Memorial Hospital.

Born December 3, 1931 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Marie Anna Zink Roche.

He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1988.

He graduated from Balti-more City College High School.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Shrine of the Little Flower and Our Lady of Victory in Baltimore. Also St. Joseph’s Monastery, Baltimore.

He liked the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Eleanore Hester Roche, at home; two daughters, Pauline Marie Peightel, Baltimore and Jane Frances Roche, Berkeley Springs; three sons, Robert Joseph Roche, Jr., Michael Patrick Roche and John Gerard Roche, all of Baltimore; one sister, Rosemarie Cheeseman, Osprey, Fla.; one brother, Lawrence Roche, Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, on the corner of Liberty and South Washington Streets, with the Rev. Father Leonard A. Smith as Cele-brant. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon.

Friends will be received Wednesday, February 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
