Dorothy M. Speck

Dorothy May “Dot” Speck, 92, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, Md.

Born May 2, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David Clifford and Florence Mae Barnes Clem.

She was a member of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women.

She was a graduate of Abington High School, Abington, Pa. and a graduate of the Pierce School of Business in Philadelphia. She worked with Hajoca Plumbing Company. She liked sewing and knitting.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rhoads McClellan Speck at home; one son; Jonathan Dale Speck, Elkins Park, Pa.; three daughters, Carolyn Joy Brelsford, Columbia, Md., Martha Ann “Marti” Kasdorf, Alexandria, Va. and Rosemary Holly John, Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Winifred Clem Braim, Abington; 17 grandchildren, Noelle Carroll, Dillsburg, Pa., Laura King, Columbus, Ohio, Autumn Barwis, South Lyon, Mich., Luke Speck, Kittan-ning, Pa., Nancy Mudahakana, Sherbrooke, Canada, Nadege Mudahakana, Montreal, Cana-da, Herve Mudahakana, Can-ton, N.Y., Annaliese Speck, New Wilmington, Pa., Olga Mudahakana, Putney, Vt., Megan Brelsford, Columbia, Rachel Brelsford Patel, Ellicott City, Md., Katherine Brelsford, Columbia, Christa Kasdorf Schiesswohl, Merritt Island, Fla., Stephen Kasdorf, Winter Park, Colo., Adam McClellan Kasdorf, Oxford, Ohio, Joseph John, Carbondale, Ill. and Jacob John, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 17 great-grandchilren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Barnes Clem.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 15 at Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, 97 S. Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs with Rev. Dr. Robert S. Osborne officiating. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery in Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
