Man in accident while allegedly fleeing fight

Charges are pending against a 20-year-old Morgan County man who was involved in a one-vehicle accident in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 9, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy First Class Scott Lemon responded to a third party call that a car had crashed into a tree along U.S. 522, about nine miles south of Berkeley Springs.

Arriving at the scene at 2:22 a.m., Lemon found a group of people who were looking for occupants of the vehicle.

Soon, Dylan Mason came staggering out of the woods, according to the police report. He was bleeding and immediately received treatment from emergency personnel.

Deputy Lemon reported that Mason appeared to be intoxicated and there were alcoholic beverage containers in and around the car. Mason was also found to possess a small quantity of marijuana, police said.

After being taken to War Memorial Hospital by ambulance, Mason submitted to a breath test and was determined to be over the legal alcohol limit, according to police.

Mason told police that he had been drinking in the bar at the Bowlerama, that a fight had broken out and that he was fleeing from other men at the time of the crash.

In a written statement on Monday, police said they were investigating the alleged fight and that charges were pending against Mason.
