Indian wrestlers go 4-1 at Bearcat Duals, Region II Championships up next

by Jamie Harris
Coach Darrell Bennett’s wrestling squad has had quite a turnaround in dual competition. Since the beginning of the year where the lack of weight classes filled hurt the Indians and caused team losses to pile up. The eight man squad has come alive over the last 15 dual meets (12-3) which is head-to-head team competition.

At the Grafton Bearcat Duals, the Tribe went 4-1 to finish third overall as a team. Ben King (106), Billy Wilson (126), CJ Capps (145), Kyle Shambaugh (195) and Matt Parkinson (220) all finished the day 5-0 for Berkeley Springs.

Matt Marshall (132) went 4-1, Josh Capps (138) and Bailey Fox (182) went 3-2 to give the Tribe eight wrestlers with winning records.

The Bearcat duals ended the Indians regular season and individual records determined those who earned top seeds for the upcoming Region II championships this coming weekend February 15 and 16 at Keyser High School.

Wrestling will start at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state championships in Huntington on February 21-23.
