Freeda G. Wood

Freeda Gaynell Wood, 84, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Va.

Born December 7, 1928 in LaJose, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Clair and Vella Viola McGarvey Barrett.

She was a Charter Member of Berkeley Baptist Church.

She was a graduate of Clearfield Senior High School in Clearfield, Pa.

She was a dedicated volunteer with the Morgan County Red Cross blood drives, had served as both a Girl Scout Troop Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother and liked bowling.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Duane Wood, West Columbia, S.C. and Ronald Thomas Wood, Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Susan Jean Witt, Nashville, Tenn. and Barbara Ann Hands, Lexington Park, Md.; two sisters, Janet Ruth Klingler, Warrensville, S.C. and Kathy Mae Wulff, Madison, Wis.; three brothers, Thomas Barrett, Grampian, Pa., David Arthur Barrett, LaJose, Pa. and Joseph White of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Raymond Kenneth Wood, West Columbia, Ronald Thomas Wood, II, Berkeley Springs, Jennifer Lynn Carbaugh, Hagerstown, Md., Abby Michele Wood, Berkeley Springs, Jason Paul Fitzmaurice, Las Vegas, Nev. and David Wayne Hands, II, Lexington Park; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert James “Woody” Wood on January 10, 2000; one son, Robert James Wood and two sisters, Helen Jane Barrett and Elizabeth Jean Eamigh.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 5 at Berkeley Baptist Church, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Everett Powell officiating. Interment will be at noon today, Wednesday, February 6 in William Lind Memorial Cemetery in Lewistown, Pa.
