Funds for backpack program
The “Wild and Wonderfuls,” a travel club from Berkeley Springs presented Starting Points of Morgan County with a $1,200 donation to their Backpack Program on Tuesday, January 22.
The funding from the donation came from the proceeds from a recent trip to New York City, led by two Morgan County School’s employees, Rachael Sarti and Rachel Fisher.
The Morgan County Backpack Program began in the Fall of 2011 when a group of individuals and representatives from Starting Points Family Resource Center, Morgan County Schools, local nonprofits, youth programs and faith organizations joined forces to try to combat the growing issue of child hunger in Morgan County.
Based on similar programs across the region and country, MCB provides a bag of nutritious, child-friendly food every Friday of the school year for children identified as having inadequate access to food on weekends and holidays.
The first set of bags were sent out the second week of January 2012 to approximately 70 students throughout the Morgan County Schools District. Since then, the number of students participating has grown to over 200.
