Downward spiral
Dear Editor:
I have listened to and read many opinions about guns and deaths. The truth is not weighed out equally for fairness for all and never will be by this present population of people. Last week’s letter comparing Canada versus the U.S. in number of shootings did not tell the population difference of Canada at 35 million and the U.S. at 314 million.
How many children are killed from DUI’s in a year and the media and government are not willing to take the same stance to remove the alcohol. When alcohol was made illegal, look at what history taught us about people and those who ran the government at that time.
How many children are killed by the use of illegal drugs? These are not allowed in our schools, yet how many illegal drugs will be in American schools on this day and how many children will die from overdose today. If the U.S. with all its laws restricting illegal drugs cannot be controlled, how can you control any illegal gun usage under more stringent laws.
How many American lives were saved last year because Americans were allowed to carry guns legally? I am not looking for the Wild West, but I don’t want to face what the young Indian woman did last week with no hope of protection.
Scales of justice and equality with protection for all. Who can control violence? Our society has been on a downward spiral to change the morality of the younger generation through media and education and we have the results before us. Something does need done, but let’s look at it fairly and at what the root cause has been.
