Picking & choosing

Dear Editor:
After reading George Miller’s letter concerning the 2nd Amendment, I needed a while to think about that logic. The problem is you would have to apply that logic to other amendments as well.

Let’s keep this brief. I am sure the founders would have never intended the New York Times to release top secret information that could compromise the security of the country. I would also think it was not intended for The Journal News to release names and addresses of law-abiding gun owners in New York. So, we need to get rid of the First Amendment as well.

Amendment #6, I am sure the founders did not intend for terrorist and enemies on the battlefield to have the right to a speedy trial in the U.S. That eliminates #6.

You cannot pick and choose what the founders meant.
