Patricia R. O’Grady
Patricia Rose O’Grady, age 81, of Berkeley Springs, WV, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend to so many, died peacefully at her home on January 3, 2013 while under the care of her family and Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Sanders Arthur Williams and Marie Lynch Williams.
Patricia was preceded in death by her sister in 1986, Elizabeth Anne Charest.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, William N. O’Grady, of Berkeley Springs and five children: J. Michael O’Grady, and wife Susan Crooke, Frederick, MD, William N. O’Grady, Jr., Wheaton, IL, Kathleen A. O’Grady, Glenside, PA, C. Timothy O’Grady, and wife Wendy W., Patricia R. O’Grady, wife of the late Buck Demarest, Raleigh, NC, fourteen grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
Patricia grew up on the Severn River in Maryland, graduated from high school and attended St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, MD. During her married life, she and Bill lived in Baltimore, MD, Dover, NJ, Granville, OH and Wheaton, IL, retiring, 17 years ago, to Berkeley Springs, WV.
A devout Roman Catholic, Patricia was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs.
Pat dedicated her life to family, friends and the service to others. She was a remarkable woman who lived her life modeling grace, strength, determination and faith — traits she maintained to the end of her life. Everyone who met Pat was touched by her kindness, welcoming personality and positive attitude. She was a fabulous hostess, cook and passionate baker; tenacious bridge player; avid gardener, proud member of the Foxglove Garden Club, Berkeley Springs, former President of the St. Francis High School Parent’s Club, Wheaton, IL and a volunteer to many charitable organizations. Pat enjoyed her travels to Ireland and China as well as vacationing with family and friends in Emerald Isle, NC. Her proudest role in life was that of wife, mother and homemaker.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, South Washington and Liberty Streets, Berkeley Springs with Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as Celebrant. A visitation will be held at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs on Wednesday, January 9 from 6-8 p.m. The visitation will conclude with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m.
