Robert L. Knight

Robert Lee “Bob” Knight, 78, of Stuart, Va., died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home.

He was born in Lawsonville, N.C. on December 25, 1934, son of the late Russell Valentine and Frances Grace Doss Knight.

He operated Knight’s Garage, corner of Fairfax and Wilkes Street in Berkeley Springs in the early 1960s.
He was an active member of Concord Church of Christ.

He was Commander of the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and V.F.W. Post 7800, an instructor for Hunters Education for over 20 years, a range inspector for the N.R.A. and was instrumental in founding the Patrick County 4-H Shooters Club and range.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Romero Belcher and a brother, Cecil A. Knight.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Mary Jo Swaim Knight, at home; four sons, Phil Hunt, Thomasville, N.C., Tommy Knight, Midlothian, Texas, Jonny Knight, Midlothian and Russell Knight, Stuart; three daughters, Mary Scott, Deborah Kerce and Bobbi Jo Bird, all of Stuart; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and four brothers, Lewis F. Knight, Donald R. Knight and Noah D. Knight, all of Stuart and Josiah D. Knight, Chapel Hill, N.C.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 at Concord Church of Christ with Brother Lewis Knight officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Knight Family Cemetery. The Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will conduct military rites. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the service.
