Lady Indian kickers down St. James Lose heartbreaker to Hedgesville, 2-1

The Berkeley Springs girls soccer team started slowly against St. James Academy on Tuesday, September 4 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Morgan Field, before finishing with a 5-0 whitewashing of their Maryland foe.

At the intermission the two teams were tied at 0-0, but the second half was all Berkeley Springs.

Indians bulldoze Hedgesville, 28-12

Berkeley Springs used a strong running game and an efficient defense to defeat Hedgesville, 28-12 at Morgan Field on Friday, August 31. Cody Reed ran for more than 150 yards and Cody Hess three touchdowns as the two talented backs led Berkeley Springs to their second consecutive win of the year.

Indian golfers finish fifth in Musselman Invitational

Berkeley Springs' young and inexperienced golf team placed fifth in the Musselman Invitational on Tuesday, August 28 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Charles Town.

Led by an 86 from Ryan Redick, the Indians totaled 367, well behind the winning score of 304 by Briar Wood, Va. Jefferson County was second with a 334, followed closely by Martinsburg and Freedom, Va., with identical team totals of 335. Berkeley Springs was next with 367, followed by Musselman with 406, St. Maria Goretti with 413 and Hedgesville with 428.

Lady kickers fall to Jefferson, 8-2

Berkeley Springs girls soccer team had a tough task on Monday, August 27. They had to travel to Jefferson County High School for a game against one of the better Class AAA teams in the state of West Virginia.

The highly regarded Cougars showed the reason for their high regard, disposing of the Indians 8-2.

Lady Pirates Volleyball season opened Tuesday

The Lady Pirates volleyball season was scheduled to open September 4 at Moorefield for a varsity contest only.

The Pirates return all six starters from last season. Among them are seniors. Amanda Carder, Brittany Kerns, Erica Zaragoza along with juniors Megan Hendrickson, Lindsey Kidwell and Chalsea Wells.

Indians run over Petersburg, 41-12

Berkeley Springs High School opened the 2007 football season with an impressive blowout of Petersburg, 41-12. The first-team offense looked in mid-season form with both Cody Reed and Cody Hess rushing for more than 100 yards each, while new starting quarterback Matt Colwell efficiently completed five of six passes for 70 yards. The defense did its part too, with the first-team defense shutting out the Vikings, while the special teams got a 73-yard kickoff return from senior Sam Byrne and blocked a punt.

Buser and Roach victorious

Three-time defending Class AA state champion Rachel Buser and junior Lenny Roach opened the 2007 cross country season with winning runs at the Musselman Invitational held in Martinsburg on Saturday, August 25.
