Historic football win for the Indians Berkeley Springs 55, Logan 40

Berkeley Springs has been playing football for nearly three-quarters of a century. And, in that time the Indians had never won a playoff game. That is until they defeated the Logan Wildcats, 55-40, on Saturday, November 10, at Coburn Field in Martinsburg.

Stretch drive

West Virginia University's Football Team looked like they might just lose against Louisville last Thursday night in Morgantown. The Mountaineers appeared to be in control with a 17 point lead in the second half before the Cardinals rallied to tie the score at 31 all late in the fourth quarter. One could sense the season slipping away as the Cardinals gathered momentum.

Super bowl champions

The Warm Springs Wolves Little Varsity football team defeated the Martinsburg 49ers 19 - 0 on Sunday to claim the 2007 Eastern Panhandle Super Bowl Championship. Entering the game, the 49ers were riding an 11 game win streak, and were looking to complete a perfect undefeated season with a win in the Super Bowl. Not only had they been the dominant team in the league, the 49ers had only been scored on three times throughout the entire season. An inspired Wolves football team, led by tailback Ricky Miller's incredible 175 yard performance, scored on the mighty 49ers three times in the second half alone. In front of a packed crowd on the brand new turf field at Martinsburg High School, the Wolves played perhaps their best game of the year.

Stuck on seven

Once again West Virginia University's attempt to rise in the BCS standings has been foiled. Despite losses by number two Boston College and number four Arizona State, the Mountaineers could not gain any ground in the BCS standings. West Virginia is still in the seventh spot.

Indians end season with dignity

Berkeley Springs High School advanced to the regional tournament for the first time in school history and gave perennial power Philip Barbour quite a battle before losing in three games by respective scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-22, on Saturday, November 3 in Philippi. The near miss was disappointing, but also encouraging, according to Berkeley Springs head coach Phil Hofe.

Super Bowl bound

The Berkeley Springs High School Football Team is not alone heading into the post season with high expectations. As the Indians prepare for a state playoff game at Martinsburg High School this Saturday, the Warm Springs Wolves Little Varsity Team prepares for the Eastern Panhandle Super Bowl at the same location on Sunday afternoon.
