Indians easily beat Paw Paw to sweep season series

Paw Paw was no match for Berkeley Springs on Friday, February 1, in Paw Paw, losing to the visiting Indians 85-30.

It was Berkeley Springs from the outset as they bolted out to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back on their way to the lopsided victory.

Berkeley Springs Junior Wrestling team traveled to North Hagerstown High School Saturday, January 26. The team wrestled against YMCA, Martinsburg and Berkeley County Mat Club.

The Wrestler of the week for BSJW was Colby Farris. He demonstrates a wrestler never giving up winning his first match this past weekend. No matter how the match turns out Colby is always ready to go out and do it again, said Assistant Coach Lucas Andrews. As far as the match Saturday all the coaches know that the team has a long way to go.

There was admittedly some nervousness in many circles with regard to the hiring of Bill Stewart as West Virginia University's new football coach. Many thought the hire was based too much on the emotion which was flowing in the wake of West Virginia's impressive win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

Indians beat sectional rival Frankfort, 76-54

Berkeley Springs had only one win coming into the game with Frankfort on Tuesday, January 8, but you couldn't tell it, as the Indians crushed their Mineral County rival 76-54 in front of a home crowd at Berkeley Springs High School.

This is probably the most complete game we've played this year, said Berkeley Springs Coach Chad Brinegar. I thought we played with poise and intensity. We have been plagued with turnovers so far this year, but we did a pretty good job of taking care of the ball tonight and it made a difference.

Indians top AA team at Winners Choice



Returning Class AA 189 pound state champion, Cody Reed, defeated East Fairmont's Morgan Murphy 11-7 to win the 189 pound title at the 31-team Winners Choice/Rotary Invitational in Fairmont on Saturday, January 12, leading the Indians to a ninth place finish. The top 10 finish was the highest of any team from the Eastern Panhandle and the highest of any Class AA team in the field.

Indians drop back-to-back games

Berkeley Springs, coming off a two-game winning streak, dropped consecutive games to Bishop Walsh and Keyser last week, falling to 2-9 on the year.

In each contest, Berkeley Springs got off to slow starts and were never able to recover.

Charitable Lady Indians lose to Petersburg



The foul line is sometimes called the charity stripe. After all one team is afforded the opportunity to score uncontested from 15 feet. However, Berkeley Springs gave that a new meaning on Saturday, January 12 in a disappointing 58-51 home loss to regional rival Petersburg.

Brittany Kerns scored a game high 29 points, leading Paw Paw High School past the Berkeley Springs High School JV team 53-42 on Wednesday, January 9, in Paw Paw.
