Eagle Scout project creates trophy case for Paw Paw High School



Paw Paw High School has a brand new trophy and display case from high school sophomore and Boy Scout Ronald FiField and his Eagle Scout project.

Free programs at James Rumsey

The Learning Center at James Rumsey Technical Institute offers a variety of free programs to students 16 years of age and older who are out of the public school system. All classes and programs are completely free of charge and are available during both day and evening hours.

Some programs available are: GED preparation, Math Review, Grammer Review, Computer Tutorials, Basic Study Skills/Vocabulary and Essay Writing, LPN Preparation and more.

Warm Springs students take field trip

About 125 fourth grade students from Warm Springs Intermediate School in Berkeley Springs got hands-on instruction in water quality sampling and testing techniques during a trip to the banks of the Cacapon River on April 30.

The site was Ginny Shade's campground, now owned by Phil Effland, off Constant Run Road.

School Board passes $26.6 million budget



The Morgan County School Board held a public hearing on Thursday, May 7 before unanimously passing a $26,646,025 budget for fiscal year 2009/2010.

Middle school students

Last fall, Tracie Bostic, Home Economics Teacher and FCCLA Faculty Advisor at the Warm Springs Middle School contacted the Humane Society of Morgan County to find out about ways her students could help the homeless animals at the Adoption Facility.

Having spoken with Senior Cat Coordinator/Assistant Manager. Barbie Ginck, she learned that the most urgent and meaningful thing her students could do would be to make cat hammocks for the cages in the cattery.

Paw Paw students take first in state social studies fair

Laura Leach and Rebecca Leach from Paw Paw High School created the winning group project in their division in Economics at the State Social Studies Fair in Charleston on Friday, May 8.

The title of their project was "Is Geothermal Part of the Energy Solution?"

School board expels senior

A Berkeley Springs High School senior was expelled for 45 days for drug possession after a lengthy discipline hearing by the school board on Tuesday, April 21.

The student will receive his high school diploma if he continues to keep up his school work during the expulsion hearing, school officials said.

Local teen group recognized

The WV Zine Webpage, which is managed and maintained by Morgan County teens, was recognized as an effective community-based program after receiving a second place award for best program during the WV Alliance celebration event on April 4.

The WV Alliance funded 49 mini-grant projects throughout the state of West Virginia. The Morgan County Partnership received funding for this project in August 2008.

Energy Express receives school supplies

Morgan County Energy Express received an assortment of school supplies from Daughters of the American Revolution Ye Towne of Bath Chapter.

Energy Express is a six-week summer program promoting the school success of children living in rural and low-income communities across West Virginia where breakfast, lunch and learning don't take a summer break.

School budget hearing postponed

A scheduled Monday meeting of the Morgan County school board, which was to include a public hearing and possible adoption of the 2009-2010 school budget, was postponed due to local flooding.
