Carney-Matts wedding

Rebecca Gil Matts and John Michael Carney were married May 5, 2007 at Old Otterbein United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Md., by Pastor Mernie Crane. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held in the Roundhouse of the B&O Railroad Museum. After their honeymoon in Costa Rica, the couple will reside in Baltimore.

The bride is the daughter of Rex and Sandy Matts of Berkeley Springs. She is a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and Penn State University where she majored in Health Policy and Administration. She is currently employed as a contract manager by Genesis Healthcare Corporation in Towson, Md.

Lauren Bowden, six years old, of Indialantic, Fla., daughter of Lisa and Sean Bowden, decided to help others in need.

Her blonde locks of love will be sent to the nonprofit organization that creates wigs of human hair for children suffering from cancer.

State is cracking down on undocumented workers

The West Virginia Division of Labor is strengthening its enforcement of undocumented worker laws by adding five inspectors to its staff.

Located throughout the state, these inspectors will concentrate on identifying and citing employers whose employee rosters include undocumented workers who are paid without following reporting requirements and illegal aliens. These employers can receive stiffer penalties, including fines and confinement in jail.

Paw Paw hopes Borderline will straighten up grounds



New Paw Paw Mayor Kenny Crites said the town was continuing its campaign to get the Borderline facility to clean up its grounds. The land around the Paw Paw plant is filled with large stacks of plastic.

A fire damaged about eight acres of land in a hayfield



A fire damaged about eight acres of land in a hayfield along Rt. 13, near the intersection to Shanghai Road on Saturday, July 14. The hayfield, belonging to Carrie Rowland, caught fire a little before noon.

Four injured in explosion



Three people suffered burns and one was injured by falling debris in a flash fire at a camper trailer around 10 p.m. on Sunday night, July 15.
