The Morgan County Fair offers lots of family fun



The seventh annual Morgan County Fair is back with lots of family fun the weekend of August 4 and 5. The county fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 4 and from 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 5 at Berkeley Springs High School. There is no admission fee for the fair.

Martinsburg couple charged with attempted murder here

Two Martinsburg residents have been charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping in a July 19 beating incident in Morgan County that may have been sparked by a $10 drug deal, according to the police.

Criminal complaints against Keean Hensen, also known as "Money," and Tawana Michelle Bygrave were filed in Magistrate Court by Deputy Tony Link, investigator for the Morgan County Sheriff's Department.

Four airlifted after explosion

Four people were airlifted to hospitals following an apparent propane stove explosion yesterday at the STS International testing facility off of Winchester Grade Road, near South Morgan Fire Department.

Two STS employees were seriously burned from the explosion, and two others were burned, but did not appear to be as badly injured, said Sheriff Ronald McIntire as he left the scene around noon.

Skate park may go south of town



A parcel of land along U.S. Route 522 South is being considered as a potential site for the future BS2 Berkeley Springs Bike and Skate Park.

Representatives of the Maryland Highway Administration, the National Park Service and the project contractor met on Friday, July 20, to discuss the debris found under the Hancock Bridge, which caused a halt to work on the structure two weeks ago.

Berkeley Springs Bike and Skate Park (BS2) spokesperson Jennie McBee, BS2 members Matt Hovermale and Lynn Kemper and Morgan County Parks and Recreation representative Bruce Beadenkopf asked the Morgan County Commission for another site for their planned skate park.

Smoking ban takes effect July 30

Smoking will now be prohibited in enclosed public places in Morgan County, effective July 30.

The smoking policy changes were adopted on 6/19/03 by the Morgan County Health Department in their revised Morgan County Clean Indoor Air Regulation. Businesses were given time to prepare their establishments for the change in policy with the new smoking ordinance.
