NARFE meeting

The monthly meeting of Chapter 2263, NARFE, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, will be held Tuesday, February 20 at Cacapon Lodge. Lunch will be served at noon, dutch treat.

The speaker will be Kelley Rankin from Rankin Physical Therapy. He will be explaining the Wellness and Fitness Center he is opening soon and the programs available to seniors.

Weekend performances

Blues trio Mike Colyer and The Tone Hounds will be at the Red Guitar Friday, February 16 at 8 p.m.

Country guitar and vocal duo Jon Thomas and Richard Crowley will be there Saturday, February 17 at 8 p.m.

Bobby Flurie at Log Cabin

One of the best guitar blues players still playing, Bobby Flurie, will be appearing at the Log Cabin Inn on Saturday night, February 10.

He has worked with some of the top music groups in the country. After starting out in Baltimore, Md. in the 60s, he went to the West Coast to perform with Quick Silver Messenger Service, as well as, Big Brother & the Holding Company, (Janus Joplin's Group), Huey Lewis & the News and The Pointer Sisters.

War Memorial Hospital offers first aid course

Morgan County War Memorial Hospital will offer the American Heart Association's Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED training course. This course is designed for laypersons, especially those in a workplace setting.

The class will be offered on Tuesday, February 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at War Memorial Hospital. A fee is charged for the course.

Afterschool arts classes at Ice House

Visual arts are on the class schedule for the Morgan Arts Council's (MAC) youth afterschool programs this spring at the Ice House. Classes begin the week of February 19, extend for nine weeks and all conclude with a group art exhibition on Friday, April 20. Registrations are now being taken.

Jane Ping teaches a Trash Art class on Tuesdays for students nine and above. "This class raises recycling to the level of art with topics like papermaking and found object sculpture," said Mary Hott, MAC's Executive Director. On Thursday afternoons, Ping's class is Beginning Printmaking for children from six to ten years old.

Two free performances

The Red Guitar welcomes back Hangfire on Friday, February 2 at 8 p.m. They are a five-piece bluegrass band consisting of John Rosenwald on mandolin, fiddle and vocals, Larry Hoffman on dobro and vocals, Dave Bogs on guitar and vocals, Jeff Fogle on upright bass and Frank Maeitta on banjo and vocals.

Singer/guitarist Larry Bish will perform an eclectic mix of mellow rock, folk, country and jazz standards on Saturday, February 3 at 8 p.m.

Carol Exline

Local author Carol (Pittman) Exline of Warfordsburg, will hold a book signing for her first book, Screams In The Dark, on Saturday, February 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hancock War Memorial Branch of the Washington County Free Library.

Screams In The Dark is a mystery/romance set in the small town of Woodmont.

Audubon Society field trips

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society welcomes its members and interested members of the public to two field trips in February. On Saturday, February 10, PVAS will join with members of the Baltimore Bird Club for birding on the Eastern Shore from Cape Henlopen, Del., to Ocean City, Md. This trip will offer an opportunity to see loons, gannets, sea ducks, Great Cormorants, and Purple Sandpipers. Razorbill sightings are also possible.

Those who wish to participate are asked to contact Nancy Kirschbaum before hand at 304-876-6881 or nancyk500@adelphia.net so PVAS knows how many people to expect and can contact them if inclement weather forces cancellation—this trip was cancelled last year due to weather.

Concert at Red Guitar

The Red Guitar welcomes back The Real McCoys and Flash on Friday, January 26, 8 p.m. The Real McCoys, with frontman Matt Hahn, play a variety of country and hillbilly music from the 1950s and 60s. Flash, featuring Gordon MacLeod, Bob Wurster, Jonathan McBee and Richard Blinkie Hopkins, play big revue of rock and roll from the 1950s.

The Acoustic Earthworm Trio will be at The Red Guitar Saturday, January 27 at 8 p.m This up and coming band from Waynesboro, Pa. consisting of Eric Avey, Kate Avey and Mike Colyer, play all original roots rock.

Chamber of Commerce sets Community Volunteer Day

Morgan County's Community Volunteer Day will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28, with the 24th annual awards brunch.

Organized by the Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, the April 28 awards ceremony is designed to honor an outstanding few of the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who provide many needed services in Morgan County.
