Donate a vehicle to a family

It's easy to donate a car, truck or van to help a West Virginia family get back on the road to work. Donors can receive a federal tax deduction and a WV State tax credit, if available.

Good News Mountaineer Garage Martinsburg, is holding a Car Drop-Off Day on Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Berkeley Springs at the DHHR parking lot on Route 522 South.

Lions Club to hold Sight Conservation Campaign

The Berkeley Springs Lions Club will hold their annual Sight Conservation Campaign (White Cane) this next weekend, May 9 and 10. Club members will be at the main office of CNB Bank, Inc and the BBT Bank on Friday. Then on Saturday they again will be at CNB Bank Inc. and at the Food Lion Store in Morgan Square. The club will be seeking financial help from people in Morgan County to support their world-wide efforts.

Part of the money collected will be used internationally to help restore sight for people with eye problems. The work carried out in many different countries involves cataract surgery, treatment for glaucoma, providing eye examinations and glasses, offering help in the prevention of river blindness as well as other sight problems. Through this help many millions of people are treated and have their sight restored. Countless numbers of people, both children and adults, in these countries walk many miles to be helped.

ECO talks

The Ecology Coalition of Morgan County will be holding another in the monthly series of conversations on ecology on Wednesday, May 14 at noon.

The meeting will be at the Panda Chinese Restaurant on Rt. 522, Martinsburg. This is a change of location for this month's conversation.

Chamber meets

Members of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, May 14, noon at Tari's Caf

Gardening class

A gardening class is being offered at the Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church on Wednesday, May 7 at 7p.m.

The class is free of charge and will be taught by local Master Gardener Susan Taylor, and president of the local Master Gardener Club, Norman Dean.

Quilt show opens with Artwalk

The annual Delectable Mountains Quilt Show opens at the Ice House Gallery on Friday, May 2 as the first major event of Quilt Month in Berkeley Springs. A four-stop Artwalk along downtown streets from 5 to 9 p.m. marks the opening festivities. Produced by the Morgan Arts Council, and curated by quilt guild member Rika Bennett, the quilt show hangs through June 1.

The Friday Artwalk begins at 5 p.m. at Mountain Laurel Gallery with Ladies on the C&O Canal, a show of paintings and prints by Tom Kozar. Next door to Mountain Laurel at 5 p.m. is a special reception opening a display of miniature quilts at the new Recycling Works shop. Also at 5 p.m. is a special reception at Acorns and Oaks Quilt Shop. Centerpiece of the Artwalk is the meet-the-quilters reception at the Ice House Gallery at 7:30 p.m.

Season

The Mountain State Cruisers classic car club will begin their cruise-ins at the park on the first Friday of each month starting in May and running through October.

The Mountain State Cruisers donate the proceeds from these events to local organizations.

Heritage Day at Martinsburg

Martinsburg's Heritage Day will be held Saturday, May 10, featuring free educational activities that celebrate Martinsburg's rich history.

Highlights of the day will include special appearances by General Adam Stephen and Belle Boyd; reenactments of the French & Indian War, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War; live entertain-

Relay for Life... A walk to remember

Morgan County will hold their Relay for Life event at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 7, through 2 a.m., Sunday, June 8, around the Berkeley Springs track at Widmyer School. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Teams are typically made up of eight-15 people from the surrounding communities who make a commitment of having one member on the track at all times. Each team member is challenged to raise a minimum in donations prior to the event, and must pay a registration fee.

Motorcyclists ride for veterans June 1

Operation God Bless America XVIII, a veterans benefit event, will be held June 1 at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

This annual event is designed to honor hospitalized veterans and raise money to make their stay at the medical center more comfortable.
