Blood drive Dec. 11 at Rankin

Rankin's Physical Therapy will host a blood drive on December 11 for the Eastern Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross. Anyone unable to participate in the December 4 blood drive can join from 1-7 p.m.

This drive will be the last one for the year 2008 in Morgan County. Support the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Meningitis vaccinations

Meningitis vaccinations will be available at the Morgan County Health Department on December 29 and 30.

Meningitis is a serious bacterial infection that affects the brain and spinal cord.

Free skiing at Canaan Valley December 11

Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, celebrates 37 years of skiing with free opening day skiing on Thursday, December 11, from noon to 4:30 p.m. The ski area will formally open for the season with normal operating hours on Friday, December 12 at 8:30 a.m.

Christmas dinner

Word of Deliverance Church will hold a Christmas dinner Sunday, December 7, immediately following the 10 a.m. worship service. There will be no evening service.

The Christmas program will be Sunday, December 21 at 7 p.m.

Starting Points December events

Starting Points December Family Reading Night will be on Monday, December 8 from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

CPR course

Morgan County War Memorial Hospital will offer the American Heart Association's CPR for Healthcare Providers Course.

Blues songwriting seminar Nov. 6

A pair of blues performers, Barrelhouse Bonni and Lady D, present a songwriting seminar at the Ice House in downtown Berkeley Springs on Thursday, November 6 at 7 p.m. Learning about songwriting is part of the yearlong Back to Our Roots celebration which begins in January. The seminar is produced by the Morgan Arts Council (MAC) with financial assistance from FAST. The blues duo is part of MAC's Adopt-a-School program which has been bringing artists into the Morgan County schools since 1978.

Barrelhouse Bonni McKeown, a native of Capon Springs, is a blues piano player and singer-songwriter based in Charleston. She has been a performer and teacher of the blues for decades, and has several CDs. Doris Fields is Lady D, a noted blues singer from Charleston, who also performs Bessie Smith as an actress. She is an award-winning songwriter and longtime promoter of emerging musicians.

Working with youth training series

The Morgan County Partnership will host its second Working with Youth community training series on Saturday, November 1 at Cacapon State Park.

With a grant from the Tom and Virginia Seely Foundation, these workshops are free and are open to anyone who works directly with youth such as parents, coaches, teachers, camp counselors, mentors, tutors, church youth leaders, school bus drivers, etc.
