Charles and Gloria Combs of Baker have announced the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Kaye Combs, of Baker, to Travis Allen Eugene Schildt, of Berkeley Springs.

Bath Council could try to keep part of abandoned Liberty Street

Bath Town Council held a sparsely-attended public hearing on February 20 about the proposed ordinance to abandon the unpaved portion of Liberty Street next to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Involved is the grassy slope, sidewalk and stairs that run from the end of the paved street in front of the church up to Mercer Street.

Museum seeks additional money from Bath Council

Tammy Marggraf, director of the Museum of the Berkeley Springs, asked the Bath Town Council on February 20 to increase funding to the museum. She noted that over the years, funding from the town's hotel-motel fund has declined.

"What's at that corner is the heart of our town. That's where the museum is, and for hundreds of years it has been the heart of our town, and it continues to be the heart of our town," Marggraf said.

Farmers Market asks to stay on Fairfax Street

Larry Lower, head of the Farmers Market, asked the Bath Town Council at their February 20 meeting to allow the market to remain on the east side of Fairfax Street.

The council had previously asked the Farmers Market to consider other sites due to planned demolition of the courthouse and ongoing construction at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Lower said the market had looked at seven sites and narrowed the list down to three: Fairfax Street, east of Washington Street; Fairfax Street, west of Washington Street and Independence Street.

Hancock Barge Bash planned for July 14

The 5th annual Barge Bash will be held on the watered portion or the C&O Canal in Hancock on Saturday, July 14. The event is sponsored by the Hancock Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the National Park Service, Historic C&O Canal.

In conjunction with the "Barge Bash," a "mini-barge bash" for remote controlled boats will precede the Barge Bash at 2 p.m., with larger boats and barges beginning at 3 p.m.
