Lipsticks for love

Katelyn Sherrard, eight years old, was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (Brain Stem Tumor) on April 7, 2006.

She really likes lipstick and lip gloss. They are asking for donations of new tubes of lipstick or lip gloss to be mailed to Katelyn Sherrard, 147 Pastoral Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.

Motorcyclists ride for veterans

Operation: God Bless America XVII, Motorcyclists Ride for Veterans, will be Sunday, June 3 with registration 9:30 till 11:30 at Travel Center, I-81 and Rt. 16, Greencastle, Pa., with departure at 12 noon to Martinsburg VA Hospital.

They plan to arrive at Martinsburg at approximately 1 p.m. with ceremony and presentation of monies at 2:30 p.m.

Jason and Shontae Brown of Great Cacapon announce the birth of their second daughter, Ella Grace Brown on February 28, 2007 weighing 7 lbs. 7 ozs. at Winchester Medical Center. She has an older sister Kimberlei Sheree. Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Kimberly Kerns, Hegdesville, and paternal grandparents are Roger and Sherry Brown of Great Cacapon.

Quilt show opens with Artwalk

Dramatic design and meticulous piecing and quilting are hallmarks of the 2007 Delectable Mountains Quilt Show opening at the Ice House Gallery on Friday, April 13. A three stop Artwalk from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Berkeley Springs starts the festivities. The quilt celebration continues with a second reception on Saturday. Produced by the Morgan Arts Council, and curated by quilt guild member Marilyn Moser, the popular quilt show hangs through May 28.

The Friday Artwalk begins at 5 p.m. at Mountain Laurel Gallery with Robeo, Oh Robeo, a show of color-enhanced black and white photographs by Martinsburg artist Daniele Paisecki. Also at 5 p.m. is a special reception at Acorns and Oaks, Quilts and More. Centerpiece of the Artwalk is the meet-the-quilters reception at the Ice House Gallery beginning at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., Bath Bookworks has a special reception featuring miniature quilts.

Curves in Berkeley Springs collects 2,643 lbs. of food for local charity

Curves in Berkeley Springs collected 2,643 and 3/4 pounds of food during a March food drive for the Morgan County Interfaith Emergency Care (MCIEC) food pantry. They also donated four big boxes of baby supplies to the Starting Points Family Resource Center.

John Easton given 2007 Elder Statesman Award

Berkeley Springs Council #117 Junior Order United American Mechanics has chosen to recognize the continuous contributions to their organization, family, church and community of a dedicated member. John Easton has been selected as the 2007 elder statesman. He has been an active member of Junior Order since March 1973.

For 34 years, he has served in the local council offices, on committees and assisted in fundraising events. All anyone had to say was "would you do" and you could count on him saying yes. At the state level, he served in many areas with the same enthusiasm and was elected State Councilor in 1996.

2007 Health Olympics: Walk with the doctor Thursday evenings

The 2007 Health Olympics is sponsoring a "Walk with the Doctor" tomorrow evening at 5:30 p.m. at the track at Widmyer Elementary School. Joining event organizer Dr. Matthew Hahn to host the event is Morgan County's newest commissioner, Brenda Hutchinson. Participation is free and open to all. Health Olympics participants are encouraged to attend, though attendance is not necessary to participate in the 2007 Health Olympics.

"Walk with the Doctor" will take place every Thursday evening through April and May, and will alternate between Berkeley Springs and the Rail-Trail in Hancock. Each week, a different local luminary will join Dr. Hahn to host the activity. Participants are encouraged to come with questions for the hosts to spur conversation along the walk.
