Berkeley High art teacher and students at Berkmore

Berkeley Springs High School art teacher Pam Didawick and three of her students join the artists exhibiting two-dimensional work at Berkmore Place ArtSpace located in the Berkmore office building off Route 522.

A Morgan County native, Didawick has taught art at Berkeley Springs High for nine years, including AP art classes—advanced placement, college-level classes. She studied art at Shepherd University and currently exhibits work at The Ice House. She likes exploring a variety of media and works in embossed metal, collage and mixed media painting. She will have three striking, evocative collages and mixed media works on display at the Berkmore.

911 dispatchers awarded

Morgan County has experienced many advancements in the past six years, including the opening of its own 9-1-1 Center in July 2001. During its years of operation, the volume of 9-1-1 calls has steadily increased. In 2002, approximately 8,500 calls came into the Center. Last year, the call volume was approximately 18,300 calls. Currently the 9-1-1 Center processes between 160 and 200 calls per month for emergency and non-emergency matters.

9-1-1 dispatchers must complete many hours of training and numerous courses to become certified. Dispatchers Michael and Mayhle are certified in APCO, EMD, EFD and On-Star in addition to working as trainers of newly hired dispatchers.

Kathy Montgomery joins Berkeley Realty Group

Berkeley Realty Group annouces that Kathy Montgomery has obtained her brokers license and is now acting broker for the real estate company.

She obtained her Real Estate License in 2000 and continued her eduation by obtaining her GRI, ABR and SRES designations. She has worked with many buyers and sellers locally, as well as out of town, and has obtained their loyalty and trust, which has been proven by the repeat business that she continues to receive from her previous customers.

Dove-McBee wedding

Sena Lindsay McBee and Jerry W. Dove, Jr. were married Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Cacapon State Park, Berkeley Springs, by Rev. Andrew Cooney.

The bride is the daughter of Stephen C. and Sena M. McBee, Berkeley Springs, and the granddaughter of Margie A. McBee, also of Berkeley Springs.

CNB Bank, Inc. June employee

MELISSA COMPTON was selected as the June 2007 employee of the month for CNB Bank, Inc. She has been employed at the bank since March 1997, and is currently a teller at Valley Road Branch and she was nominated by several co-workers who stated, "Melissa is the perfect example of what quality customer service stands for and has set a high example for all CNB employees. She is genuinely kind and extremely helpful with customers; always the first one to look up and speak to customers who have just entered the bank. She is knowledgeable of CNB policies and is able to explain with ease and confidence the procedure(s) needed in order to assist the customer. She goes above and beyond her duties, stepping up to the plate when a need arises. Always professional, pleasant to customers and co-workers, always smiling, calling customers by name and telling them to have a good day."

WVMI lauds hospitals

The West Virginia Medical Institute, the nonprofit organization that serves as the state's federally designated Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, recognized 27 hospitals, including Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, July 26 in Charleston for their efforts to improve patient safety.

More than 150 healthcare professionals who work at hospitals throughout the state attended the conference that concluded, "Partnering to Improve Patient Safety in West Virginia," a three-year project supported by a grant from the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Habitat for Humanity at county August meeting

The next meeting for Habitat for Humanity in Morgan County will be held Tuesday, August 28, at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 206 South Mercer Street, Berkeley Springs.

The Morgan County group is part of the Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle affiliate of the International Habitat for Humanity Organization.

Fireman

The first annual Paw Paw Festival will be hosting a Fireman's Parade Saturday, September 15 at 9 a.m. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Appearing EMS Unit, Best Appearing Engine Truck, Best Appearing Tanker and Best Appearing Initial Attack Unit. Line up for the parade is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on the CSX Railroad access road off Route 9 next to Scrap Bros. Inc.

Competitions will begin following the parade at the festival grounds adjacent the boat launch on Route 9. There will be a double elimination Battle of the Barrels that consists of a four-person team plus one spotter, a Bucket Brigade Race with a maximum of 10 person teams, and an Engine Pull with a maximum of 10 person teams. Teams may consist of both males and females. Companies may enter multiple teams, however individuals may only compete on one team. Rules for all events will be posted and announced prior to each event.
