50th anniversary

Roy and Mary Lou Kyne Koontz of Great Cacapon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at Maria's Garden and Inn in Berkeley Springs on September 9. They were married August 31, 1957 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

The celebration was hosted by their children and grandchildren. Teresa Tess Koontz Southerly, daughter, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Michael Roy Koontz, son, of Vienna, Va., assisted in planning the occasion.

Smith-Kough wedding

Amanda Jean Kough and Mark Allen Smith were united in marriage on May 22, 2007 in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (USVI).

The bride is the daughter of Barton and Sara Kough of Martinsburg, W.Va. Grandmothers are Jean Kough of Three Springs, Pa. and Anzie Wilson of Orbisonia, Pa.

Bath Council passes animal control and bike ordinances; Town Recorder resigns

Bath Town Recorder Garnet Marsh is resigning her post as of September 30. Mayor Susan Webster announced Marsh's resignation at the Tuesday, September 4 council meeting. Marsh did not attend the meeting.

Marsh is leaving the council because she is moving to a home outside of town. Only residents of the Town of Bath may serve on council.

Board appointment process approved

The Morgan County Commission approved a final draft of procedures for county volunteer board appointments and re-appointments at their September 7 meeting.

Commissioner Brenda Hutchinson made the motion for approval and Commissioner Glen Stotler seconded it. Commissioner Tommy Swaim was out of town.

Ashley Dawn Twigg and Frankin Lee Haines of Charles Town announce the birth of their daughter, Ha'Leigh Dawn Haines, on August 17, 2007 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, weighing 6 lbs. 2 ozs. Maternal grandparents are Brenda and Lewis (Rusty) Twigg, Charles Town. Paternal grandparents are Rebecca Stewart and Ronald Haines, Charles Town. Maternal great grandparents are Mary and Ronald Weaver. Paternal great grandparents are Joyce Bradenburg and David Stewart, Berkeley Springs.

War Memorial honors staff for teamwork

Morgan County War Memorial Hospital recently honored staff members from several departments for their efforts to save a patient's life.

The hospital's semi-annual Teamwork Award was given to the "Code Blue Angels," which included staff from the Emergency Department, Res-piratory Therapy/Cardiopul-monary Services, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Patient Registration. They responded quickly and skillfully when an unresponsive patient came to the emergency department suffering a heart attack. They were able to get the patient's heart beating again and stabilized the patient. After a short hospital stay, the patient is now doing well and is at home.

New book tells Joltin

It would seem that Jim McCoy was never one to shy away from the limelight. Now the Highland Ridge native, veteran country musician and recording artist has grabbed center stage as the subject of a new book.

Joltin' Jim, written by Morgan Messenger editor John Douglas, is a biography of McCoy's long career behind the microphone, a history of country music, and a tribute to those who played the music around here.

Attorney General Darrell McGraw is warning consumers about a "hitman" email that was sent to a consumer in West Virginia.

The message threatened that an assassin would kill the recipient unless he paid the hitman large amounts of money.
