Blenko glass exhibit at Ice House

An exhibit of Blenko Glass museum pieces opens at the Ice House Gallery with a special public reception on Friday, September 28 at 7:30pm. Commissioner of Culture and History Randall Reid Smith is the featured guest at the opening. The exhibit -- Blenko: West Virginia's Gift to the World -- includes more than 100 pieces from the collections of the Huntington Museum of Art and the West Virginia State Museum. It remains on view at the Ice House in Berkeley Springs through November 4.

The Blenko Glass gala opening is part of an Artwalk that begins at Mountain Laurel Crafts on the square from 5 to 7:30 p.m. where additional glass works from regional and national artists are showcased.

Yost-Apple wedding

Lori Jo Apple and Cody Ray Yost were united in marriage on Sunday, March 31, 2007, at 4 p.m. Pastor James Brady performed the double ring ceremony at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.

The bride is the daughter of Paul and Deborah Apple of Berkeley Springs. The groom is the son of Donnie and Bobbie Yost of Berkeley Springs.

Foxglove Garden Club

The Foxglove Garden Club, of Berkeley Springs/Morgan County, began their 2007/2008 monthly meetings on Tuesday, September 11 at the home of Nancy Grove with co-hostesses Diane Yost and Janie Swaim. Club president, Cory Belton, opened the meeting.

Committee reports were given and workdays set for September 19 and 24. Diane Yost will meet people at the Fairfax Green starting at 8 a.m., or whenever members can arrive, and going through lunch together at noon. The Fairfax Gardens, Herb Garden and German Cemetery will be worked on.

Paw Paw enacts ATV ordinance

The Paw Paw Town Council adopted an ATV ordinance at their Tuesday, September 4 meeting.

The Paw Paw ATV ordinance bans the operation of an all-terrain vehicle on any public road or highway within the Town of Paw Paw, whether or not the road contains a center line.

New device eliminates rotten egg smell from well water



Berkeley Springs resident Tom Hall has invented a device called The Eliminator that removes rotten egg smell and iron from well water.

Bridge work will last three months

Work on the Packing Shed Road bridge off Winchester Grade Road in southern Morgan County will last about three months.

The bridge, which is located on Route 8/18, has been a low water crossing that flooded all the time, said district bridge engineer Gary Klavuhn. It is also known as the Packing Horse Road bridge. There are a number of area structures built to handle low water conditions, he said.

Close brothers pass uniform CPA exam

The Accounting Firm of Thomas A. Close, CPA in Berkeley Springs, announces that Matthew T. Close and Bradley J. Close have both recently passed the uniform CPA examination.

Matthew Close, CPA, graduated from Shepherd University in 1998 and has worked with the accounting firm of Thomas A. Close, CPA since graduation. He lives in Berkeley Springs with his wife Gretchen, daughter Lily and son Joshua Bragg.

Commissioners travel to D.C. for courthouse funding help

Morgan County Commissioners Glen Stotler, Tommy Swaim and Brenda Hutchinson and County Administrator Bill Clark traveled to Washington D.C. last Thursday. They were seeking funding help for rebuilding the Morgan County Courthouse.

The group visited the offices of Senator Robert Byrd and U.S. Representative Shelley Moore Capito and spoke with staff. County resident John Petersen met them at Byrd's office.

Eric and Elizabeth Hensell Emmons of Hatfield, Pa. announce the birth of their second child, a son, Ian Cooper Emmons, on September 1, 2007. Maternal grandparents are George and Karen Hensell of Warfordsburg, Pa. Paternal grandparents are William and Karen Emmons of Warfordsburg. Maternal great grandmother is Vesta Maravelis of Hedgesville, W.Va.
