Rescue squad gets new heart monitors

The Morgan County Rescue Service recently purchased two replacement cardiac monitors to meet new mandatory state guidelines for emergency transport vehicles. The heart monitors cost about $20,000 each.

The new equipment will be installed in the ambulances this week once the protective covers are in.

Broadband wireless Internet access in county is expanding

The coverage area of a high-speed broadband wireless Internet access system being deployed in Morgan County is expanding. The system is being installed by World Airwaves of Winchester, which is a subsidiary of Visual Link of Winchester. The broadband system will operate primarily on the 2.4 gigahertz frequency.

The Morgan County Commission had contracted with World Airwaves more than a year ago to put in the broadband wireless system. The county will receive a 10% fee of the revenues to compensate for the use of public lands and equipment.

Usha Art Gallery and Usha Glass Art open

Usha Art Gallery features the works of 20 local artists. It officially opened the weekend after Labor Day. Downstairs from the gallery is Usha Glass Art, the stained glass art studio of local artist Ralph Gonzales.

Gonzales owns and runs both businesses, which are located at 758 South Washington in the former Donna's Coffee Shop.

New energy ideas urged for courthouse

Berkeley Springs resident John Petersen urged the Morgan County Commissioners to pursue energy efficiency in the new courthouse design.

Petersen strongly encouraged the commissioners to spend time exploring alternative energy sources such as geothermal heating and cooling for the courthouse complex.

Design firms chosen for new hospital

Design firms have been chosen for the new Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

Perkins and Will, Inc. of Washington, D.C. will be the architectural firm and Valley Engineering is approved as the civil engineering firm, said Hospital Administrator John Borg.

Victim

The identity of the person killed in the Monday, September 10 fire at 196 Youngblood Road south of Great Cacapon hasn't been confirmed.

The ruling as to the identity of the victim found at the fire scene will be coming from the State Medical Examiner's Office, said Assistant Fire Marshal Ed Robinson. Family members provided a hair sample for DNA assessment. Robinson didn't know when the DNA results would be available.

Paw Paw mayor asks for chief

Brian Sites has been relieved of his duties as Paw Paw's police chief, said Town Councilman Jeff Palmer, a former Paw Paw mayor.

Palmer wasn't sure of the exact date of Sites' last day as police chief, but it was more than a week ago.
