County Fire Board applications needed



A citizen member for the Morgan County Fire Board is currently needed to represent Magisterial District 3. Fire Board member Bill O'Grady's term for that district expired in April.

Senior Life Services gets donated turkeys



Senior Life Services of Morgan County received a donation of 16 frozen regular turkeys from the National Wild Turkey Federation of the Eastern Panhandle.

Humane Society over capacity, needs adopters & volunteers



The Humane Society of Morgan County has been over capacity with cats and dogs for quite some time. The Humane Society needs people to adopt their shelter dogs and cats. The organization would also like more volunteers to help with many different operations.

Geothermal home leads the way to the future



Former Coolfont owner Sam Ashelman and contractor Wayne Omps of Colonial Village Industries, Inc. have created a geothermal demonstration home. People will be able to see geothermal technology first-hand.

Program aids women and children



The West Virginia Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provides a healthy start for new and expectant moms and young children. The program is free of charge.

Empty Bowls Benefit is set for Friday, November 16



The Empty Bowls Benefit is scheduled for Friday, November 16 from 4-7 p.m. at Widmyer Elementary. Local organizations and volunteers began the event to bring attention to homelessness and hunger during National Homeless Week.

Citizen volunteers are needed to train to help in disasters



Trained citizen volunteers are desperately needed for assisting the county in the event of a major disaster, said Office of Emergency Services (OES) Director Dave Michael.

County extension agent Bob Knight is retiring



Morgan County West Virginia University extension agent Bob Knight is retiring from service. His last official day is tomorrow. Knight began his position as the county extension agent in September, 2003.

Deadline set for open county board positions



Applications for current openings on the Morgan County Fire Board and the Morgan County Economic Development Authority will be accepted until November 16. The county hopes to fill the volunteer board positions as soon as possible, said administrative assistant Bette Kidwell.
