Tom and Jerry

Three times in the last four years I have been fortunate enough to be invited to a Member-Guest golf tournament in Bonita Springs, Florida. The club is a private 36 hole facility and is part of an upscale residential community. It is full of retirees, some who winter there and others who are there year round. In any event, almost everyone there is from somewhere else where they seemed to have been very successful.

Bracket Busted?

OK, how many of you got your March Madness bracket busted by putting West Virginia University's Basketball Team in the national championship game? Anyone have them winning it all against Pitt like I did?

Dancing

It is not shocking that West Virginia University's men's basketball team has made the field of 64. The Mountaineers will play Dayton this Friday at approximately 3 p.m. in the Midwestern region at Minneapolis. WVU did handle Pitt in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament last week which may have shocked some people, but other than that, things have gone pretty much according to plan.

In or out?

This is the time of year we regularly hear the words bracketology and breacketologist. Bracketology is the act of projecting the NCAA field of 64. Of course a bracketologist would be the person doing such projections. As it stands now, West Virginia University's Mens Basketball Team would seem to be all set for the field of 64. The Mountaineers are 21-10 with a 10-8 record in the rugged Big East Basketball Conference. West Virginia appears on virtually all the bracketologist's list. At least the major ones.

White shines

Former West Virginia University quarterback Pat White was in Indianapolis last weekend to participate in the NFL's scouting combine. This is the combine where select NFL prospects are invited to attend. While there, the players will be timed, measured, and tested in areas relating to football skills, social skills and intellect. Not all draft eligible players are invited to attend this combine. This combine is generally for players who figure to be going in the early rounds of the draft.

Don't be bothered by the polls

I guess it is only natural. If you are a fan of a team which just beat a nationally ranked opponent by 21 points on a Friday, you might be looking for some love from poll voters on the following Monday. I have detected some frustration from West Virginia University basketball fans, because the Mountaineers were virtually ignored in this week's basketball polls.

Basketball team moving forward

West Virginia University's Basketball Team fell to 16-8 overall and 5-6 in the Big East Conference following a 70-59 loss at Pitt on Monday night.

Maybe we can start looking forward to Super Bowls in the future. OK, most fans look forward to the Super Bowl every season, only to be subjected to something less than a compelling game. Not so the last two years. As good of a game as last year's matchup between the Giants and Patriots was, Sunday's game between Pittsburgh and Arizona may have surpassed it.

This 27-23 Pittsburgh win had plenty of drama. Now, I didn't have a team in this game and I began the process thinking a Steeler win was what I wanted to occur. All I really wanted was a game worth watching. Well, that is what I got. I'm almost glad I wasn't emotionally involved in this game. The final five minutes would have been hard to handle.

Super Bowl

It is hard to believe that the spectacle known as the Super Bowl is in its 43rd year. For me that is a wake up call. Waking up to realize I have been watching these things since I was 10. History tells us the Super Bowl rarely lives up to its considerable hype. Nevertheless, if you are like me, you will be front and center Sunday to watch Super Bowl XLIII.

Pat's future begins

Pat White will be remembered for many things he accomplished as the quarterback at West Virginia University. He will forever be a former WVU quarterback. This week we will begin to learn if Pat will be known as a former quarterback, or continue to be a quarterback.
