Boys soccer team downs St. James, 3-2

Berkeley Springs overcame adversity to defeat St. James 3-2 on Tuesday, September 4, at Morgan Field.

The Indians playing shorthanded because of injury, and with other players hampered by injury, managed to juggle the lineup and come up with a big win over an opponent they had never beaten.

Berkeley Springs opens volleyball season

Berkeley Springs High School opened the 2007 volleyball season with a road loss to Jefferson County on September, 4. The Indians competed well against their Class AAA opponent, before losing in three games to the Cougars 25-19, 25-23 and 25-14.

"The first contest of the year always provides anticipated excitement and emotion and tonight was no different," said Berkeley Springs coach Phil Hofe. "For us to win we need to have an attacking offense and most of the night we were on our heels and off balance. We stayed close in the first two games, especially the second, but in the third game we lost our intensity. Overall I was pleased with the way the girls played and I thought we were very competitive."

The Berkeley Springs girls soccer team started slowly against St. James Academy on Tuesday, September 4 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Morgan Field, before finishing with a 5-0 whitewashing of their Maryland foe.

At the intermission the two teams were tied at 0-0, but the second half was all Berkeley Springs.

Indian golfers finish fifth in Musselman Invitational

Berkeley Springs' young and inexperienced golf team placed fifth in the Musselman Invitational on Tuesday, August 28 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Charles Town.

Led by an 86 from Ryan Redick, the Indians totaled 367, well behind the winning score of 304 by Briar Wood, Va. Jefferson County was second with a 334, followed closely by Martinsburg and Freedom, Va., with identical team totals of 335. Berkeley Springs was next with 367, followed by Musselman with 406, St. Maria Goretti with 413 and Hedgesville with 428.

Lady kickers fall to Jefferson, 8-2

Berkeley Springs girls soccer team had a tough task on Monday, August 27. They had to travel to Jefferson County High School for a game against one of the better Class AAA teams in the state of West Virginia.

The highly regarded Cougars showed the reason for their high regard, disposing of the Indians 8-2.

Berkeley Springs improves to 2-1 in boys soccer



There is a lot of buzz around the boys soccer team this year and for good reason. After destroying Keyser 10-1 in the season opener, Berkeley Springs shut out Petersburg 6-0 to open their home season on Thursday, August 23.

Varsity football team opens Friday in Petersburg



Berkeley Springs High School Varsity Football Team, coming off a 5-5 season, is preparing to improve on last year and hopefully gain a spot in the post season playoffs. Head coach Angelo Luvara, entering his seventh season as Berkeley Springs head coach, feels his team can be successful and believes a lot hinges on winning the close games.

Golfers fourth in Martinsburg Invitational



Berkeley Springs young golf team, led by junior Ryan Redick fifth place finish, placed fourth at the Martinsburg Invitational on Wednesday, August 15 at Stonebridge Golf Course in Martinsburg.

Boys soccer team crushes Keyser in season opener



Berkeley Springs boys soccer team kicked off the 2007 soccer season on Friday, August 17 in Keyser, with a convincing 10-1 win over the Golden Tornado.
