Bath Council asks U.S. Silica for help

At a Monday morning meeting about the water project, Bath Town Council members decided to seek assistance from U.S. Silica on upgrades to the town-owned water system.

Mayor Susan Webster said U.S. Silica added another work shift recently, causing water usage at the plant to go up dramatically.

Bath Council sets special meetings about courthouse & police issues

When they met on Monday, May 7, the Bath Town Council scheduled two special meetings.

The first - on Monday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. – is to discuss the possible inclusion of town offices in the new courthouse.

Man beaten when feud turns violent at Wayside

A feud between two men turned violent on Tuesday evening, April 24, when one man kicked in an apartment door and beat the male occupant unconscious at the Wayside Inn, south of Berkeley Springs.

David Glenn "Hillbilly" Mayberry, 44, of Hedgesville was arrested and charged with felony counts of malicious assault and burglary.

Home Team Realty opens doors in Berkeley Springs

The ribbon was cut for the new office of Home Team Realty at a ceremony two weeks ago.

Mayor Susan Webster did the honors with the company's owner and staff standing by. Morgan County Commission president Glen Stotler, Delegate Daryl Cowles and Attorney Charles Trump were on hand for the ceremony.

Fugitive from Maryland arrested in traffic stop

A Berkeley Springs woman was arrested for being a fugitive from justice last Friday afternoon, April 27, after a traffic stop on Harrison Avenue.

Brenda Lee Belanger, 41, of Betty Lane, was arrested after Corporal Craig Pearrell tried to stop her when he noticed that her brown Lincoln Town Car had no inspection sticker, according to Bath Police Chief James Minton.

Bath Council cuts tax rates, quadruples street fees

After a public hearing at the April 17 meeting, the Bath Town Council amended their Street Maintenance & Improvement Ordinance, increasing rates for both town residents and businesses.

The ordinance raises street fees for residents from $3 to $12 per quarter, and rates for businesses from $5 to $24 per quarter, effective July 1.

Traffic stop escalates into a hot Friday night scene

Donna Lynn Walter, 35, of Independence Street, Berkeley Springs, was arrested Friday night, April 13, by town police for disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after Town of Bath Corporal Craig Pearrell and Morgan County Deputy Sheriff Seth Place responded to a 911 call about an attempted break-in at Mike's Garage on North Mercer Street.

County may trade space for tower use

The Morgan County Commissioners heard a proposal at their April 6 meeting from a company that wants to build four wireless communications towers and use several existing towers throughout the county.

Vista PSC LLC is a partner of Verizon. The towers would bring Verizon Wireless cell phone service to the area and also allow for future wireless internet service.
