Powerline meeting electrifies crowd

By 4:45 p.m. last Thursday evening, the parking lot of the Homestead Restaurant was full. People were lined up outside the front entrance waiting for the open house about Allegheny Power transmission line plans to begin.

Abby Chapple and Sally Berman had formed an ad hoc committee, Citizens Against PATH, and were sitting on the tailgate of a station wagon collecting signatures on a petition from those waiting.

Commission approves commitment for courthouse construction loan



The Morgan County Commission approved a letter of commitment for a $9 million loan on Friday for construction of a new courthouse from the State Infrastructure Jobs Development Council.

The Morgan County Commissioners gave their okay on Friday to the next step in the possible sale of county-owned War Memorial Hospital.

Coolfont tax district plan moves to public hearing & final vote



The Morgan County Commissioners agreed on Friday to order the filing of a petition by Berkeley Springs Development, LLC to create a Coolfont Community Enhancement District at the proposed Villages at Coolfont development in Cold Run Valley.

10-digit phone numbers begin on Saturday

On July 26, everyone making a telephone call to a number in the 304 area code is encouraged to begin dialing all 10 digits including the area code.

If you forget and dial just 7 digits, your call will go through for now, but beginning February 28, 2009 you must dial all 10 digits to connect to a 304 area code number.

Town hires new police



The Bath Town Council hired four new police officers at the Tuesday, July 15 meeting.

Local family hosts Fresh Air Fund child

For five of the past six years, the Reed family of Berkeley Springs has hosted a summertime visitor. For two weeks each summer Hakeem Jackson has been their guest as part of the Fresh Air Fund Friendly Town Program.

Jackson, now 14, lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., and is one of 5,000 intercity kids that visit 300 suburban and small town communities across 13 northeastern states and Canada each summer.

Streetscape costs exceed available funds

Healthy Smiles free dental clinic a huge success



Over a thousand patients were treated by area dentists and dental hygienists who volunteered at a free dental clinic held at Hedgesville High School Friday and Saturday, June 27-28.
