Water Works fixes big leak



A large water leak was detected and fixed by the crew of the Water Department near the corner of Fairfax and Green streets on Wednesday morning, December 10.

Bath crosswalks to get signs

Mayor Susan Webster announced at the December 2 Bath Town Council meeting that signs telling motorists to stop for pedestrians will be placed in municipal crosswalks.

The announcement came after a meeting with state Division of Highways Supervisor John Coleman and District 5 Highway Engineer Randy Sigley.

On February 17, 2009, television stations will cease broadcasting analog TV signals, those normally picked up by an antenna, and start broadcasting digital TV signals.

Police win award, start removing sandwich signs



For the fourth consecutive year, the Town of Bath Police Department has won the American Automobile Association (AAA) Platinum Community Traffic Safety award. Prior to the four years of platinum awards, Bath police had received two silver awards from the AAA.

Bath Council joins association

A newly formed organization called the Warm Springs Watershed Association is dedicated to improving water quality and access along Warm Springs Run.

The group's president, Kate Lehman, appeared before the Town of Bath Council Tuesday, October 21 to introduce the organization to mayor and council and explain their objectives.

Lee Fox and Tom Seely honored for service

Morgan County Sheriff Ron McIntire presented both Lee Fox and Tom Seely with the Sheriff's Extraordinary Citizen award in a ceremony October 16 at the Morgan County Sheriff's Department.

It gives me great honor and privilege to present these awards, McIntire said.

Mayor cleans up dump site

Passersby may have noticed the large hill of dirt piled up on the lot at the north end of town. Mayor Susan Webster and her husband Peter Moss own the lot which sits across U.S. 522 from the American Legion.

Last May, Webster was cited with a notice of violation by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for filling in about a half acre of wetlands. The Corps was informed of the fill by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

Sidewalk signs may be banned in town

All those clapboard-like sidewalk signs advertising Berkeley Springs businesses that are so prevalent along Washington and Fairfax Streets may soon be history.

West Virginia Division of High-ways Inspector Barbara M. Abe from the Burlington Office told Town of Bath Council those signs violate state law. Abe, accompanied by Highways Supervisor John Coleman, appeared before council at the October 7 meeting.

Town ordered to increase water rates

The West Virginia Public Service Commission struck down the Town of

Bath's proposed flat rate structure for water rates and imposed its own rate schedule on the town.

Area veterans take

Union Chapel Methodist Church sponsored a Grateful Nation bus trip to the war memorials in Washington, D.C. for World War II veterans on Wednesday, September 17.

Veterans of World War II, their wives and widows of WWII vets were given complimentary seats as a Thank You for their service to the country.
