E. Joanne Gordon

1939-2021

E. Joanne Gordon, 82, of McConnellsburg, Pa., passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, with her family by her side.

Born October 15, 1939, in Belle Grove, Md., she was the daughter of the late William Webster and Maxine (Schriver) Swain and the widow of Russell Dickson Gordon, whom she married on June 4, 1959.

She was a member of the Damascus Christian Church.

She was valedictorian of the Hancock High School Class of 1957. Following graduation, Joanne went to work for the US Government in Washington, D.C. After her marriage to Russell, she worked as a secretary for various family businesses. Joanne enjoyed baking, cooking, tending to her flowers, crossword puzzles, spending time with her family, and vacationing on the Eastern Shore.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy McClure and husband Don, of McConnellsburg, Elizabeth Carbaugh and husband Chuck, of Mercersburg, Pa; a son, Brian Gordon, of Shady Grove, Pa.; five grandchildren, Courtney Cox and husband Jesse, Nick McClure, Eli, Emma and Isaac Carbaugh; one great-granddaughter, Vivian Cox, and one great-grandson on the way; five sisters, Shirley Keefer and Norma Ridenour both of Clear Spring, Md., Barbara Rockwell, of Nokomis, Fl., Deloris Spielman, of Black Mountain, N.C. and Gloria Hutzel, of Hagerstown, Md.; and one brother, Gerald Swain of Hancock, Md.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one son, Russell Dickson Gordon, Jr. and one brother, James Swain.

Funeral services were private. Pastor Loy Garber officiated. Interment was at Damascus Christian Church Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md.
